Teams that compete in games/competitions/matches/meets have a dedicated place to update scores and keep their remote fans following the action. Once the game goes final, it’s easy to share the game result with your community. There’s even an option to add play-by-play commentary. Here’s how to keep your community of supporters updated on game day.
1. Before updating the score, make sure your game is in your feed visible to supporters. Just note that games always live on your calendar since they are events with date and time, but to move the game to the top of your feed as the game approaches, click on the ••• on the game post and choose Display on Feed & Calendar from the menu of options.
2. On game posts (also called competition, match, meet posts depending on the sport or activity), the matchup or name of the competition appears at the top of the scoreboard. On this game post, open the ••• menu.
3. Choose Update Score from the list of menu items.
4. If this is a head-to-head matchup, drop in the two scores starting with your team and then add the opposing team.
5. If this is a multi-team competition like marching band or track and field, you will just have Place and Score.
6. Below the scores, you will see Status. Here you can put in the quarter, half, or overtime status next to the score.
7. At the bottom of the screen you will see Live Updates next to a cheer megaphone. Where it says Play-by-Play, designated admins can add game updates for remote fans. They can include things like scoring updates and other big plays. This is an unofficial but fun way to keep track of the game. Once your first update is ready, just click ADD to save and active play-by-play.
8. When it comes to score updates, if it’s just an in-game score update, add your scores but do not click the Final Score checkbox. Once you hit SAVE, you will see your update on the game post in the feed and it will say LIVE, meaning the game is in progress.
9. If the game is over, click on the Final Score check box and SAVE. Once saved, you will see the scoreboard read Final with a new upcoming ribbon promoting the next game on the schedule. The game post is a great place for supporters to look up the final score and next matchup.
And if you ever make a mistake, for example assign the wrong score to a game, you can RESET GAME at the very bottom to wipe out your previous entry and start fresh.
