Creating a Game, Meet, Match, or Competition Post

Sports teams, non-sports teams, & boosters have the ability to create a game post – also known as competition, meet, or match depending on the nature of your sport or competition. This is a special post type designed for this audience. You won’t miss the scoreboard feature at the top of the post in your team colors.

What makes a game post like an event post, but different from a standard post, is the addition of a start date and time. Once added, your new game post will appear on your calendar. You can also add a number of other details to dress up your game post following the steps below:

1. From your group’s home screen, from the Post dropdown menu, select Game to get started.

2. Add your Opponent and any important details. Then work your way through the fields below.

3. If your team uses non-team subgroups (parents, alumni, fans, etc.), select Audience to choose who can see this post.

4. Although some fields are optional, Opponent, Start, and Venue are required for games posts. If your program uses subgroups for subteams, you will also need to pick your Team type (Varsity, JV, Freshman, A, B, etc.).

Game Type - Identify what type of game this is: Regular Season, Scrimmage, Playoffs, or Tournament.

Team - Identify your subteam if you have one. For example, Varsity, JV, and Freshman.

Venue - Designate your venue: Home, Away, and Neutral (site venue).

Arrive - Let your team know how much time you need in advance of the big game to arrive.

5. Then the rest of the game post form looks like an event form where you can add more information:

Location - Let your members know where your event is happening with a location that features Google, Apple, and Waze map services.

RSVP - Get an accurate headcount with RSVP. If you’re a team, you can RSVP for rostered players only or all members of the group.

Status - Adding a status to your game works great, especially when dealing with last minute changes, such as a game is canceled or postponed.

Reminders - Set it and forget it is the name of the game with reminders. Add push notification and/or email reminders when you create your game post.

Display On - GroupSpot defaults games to publish on your Calendar Only, but this can be changed to Feed & Calendar for games in the near future or added in-season like Playoff games.

6. Games, like events, are distinct because they always need a start date and time, and as a result, they will always appear on your calendar.

7. Don’t forget you can also hit the + button to add a Signup if you’re looking for game day volunteers or tap the camera icon to add your best game action photos/albums.

8. Once you’ve filled in your game details, hit the green POST button to publish your game.
