Rosters are one of the special features that make sports teams unique. They have the ability to capture additional important player information beyond the typical contact details you'd find in your Member Directory. They’re also very practical. Whether you want to know which player scored the touchdown or which player-parent you’re sitting next to in the stands, Rosters are a great resource at your fingertips.
When you get approved to join a sports team, the first thing you’re required to do is join the roster. You will navigate your way through a few simple screens before getting into the group. Identifying your role on the team during this roster onboarding process is very important. This is where players and parents get connected on the player’s roster profile and where staff and coaches are identified.
Let’s walk through the process step-by-step:
1. Once you’ve been approved to join the group, open the group from your group home screen.
2. Tap the blue Let’s Go! button at the first screen.
3. The first question is asking how you’re connected to the team. Choose member, parent, staff, or other (booster, alum, or fan)
1. Once you’ve selected ‘I'm a member of this team’, you will need to join the roster by selecting your name from the list of rostered players.
2. If the coach or admin didn’t preload the roster of players, you will need to add your name by clicking the blue Add Yourself button. Fill in your full name, first and last, and SAVE.
3. When you return to the Roster, you will see your name with a blue check mark indicating it’s been selected. At this point, tap the green Join button at the top to finalize your roster spot.
4. Once you’ve rostered yourself, you will land on a short checklist of other getting started items such as adjusting your profile visibility and setting your notifications.
5. Once that checklist is complete, you can enter your new group.
1. Once you’ve selected ‘I'm a parent of a member’, you will need to join the roster by selecting your child’s name from the list of rostered players.
2. If the coach or admin didn’t preload the roster of players, you will need to add your child’s name by clicking the blue Add Your Child button. Fill in their full name, first and last, and SAVE.
3. When you return to the Roster, you will see your child’s name with a blue check mark indicating it’s been selected. At this point, tap the green Join button at the top to connect your profile with that of your child as well as finalize your roster spot.
4. Once you’ve rostered yourself, you will land on a short checklist of other getting started items such as adjusting your profile visibility and setting your notifications.
5. Once that checklist is complete, you can enter your new group.
1. Once you’ve selected ‘Staff’, you will need to join the roster by selecting your name from the list of rostered players and staff. The list of Staff follows the list of players at the bottom of the list.
2. If the coach or admin didn’t preload the roster of players and staff, you will need to add your name by clicking the blue Add Yourself button.
1. Once you’ve selected ‘Booster, alum, fan, or other’, since you aren’t part of the official roster, you will skip the roster questions and instead land on a short checklist of other getting started items such as adjusting your profile visibility and setting your notifications.
2. Once that checklist is complete, you can enter your new group.
As your team moves on into new seasons on GroupSpot, Rosters can be preserved by season in the app. So when you want to look back at your team Roster from three years ago, you now can. And when you open up the Roster feature, you’ll find filters at the top which allow you to sort by subteam if applicable (varsity, jv, freshman, etc.), season if applicable (2022, 2023, 2024, etc.), and by player attribute (first name, last name, number, position, class).
Rosters are one of the best ways to follow your current team, while at the same time, preserving your past.
